"You're no fun. At the very least pretend to fall for it."

Throughout his whole life, it has been made frighteningly clear that wearing a mask  --both figuratively and literally-- is the best course of action to take. So, he does: while it may seem from an outsider’s perspective that he is naive and possibly even a bit oblivious to the workings of such a cruel and harsh world, nothing could be further from the truth. Myao is a hard-working and aspiring detective, with little left to learn. To prevent others from suspecting his constant delves into the depths of every system’s innerworkings, he often portrays himself as just a careless and happy-go-lucky child. This way of thinking has gotten him farther than one would expect. Although, due to his constant facade, he has gotten more used to wearing his mask than not. He’ll often stay in character for longer than need be, and it could be argued that it has grown into more than just an act. Regardless, he’ll try his best to close every case he can, with his need to bring everything to a resolve driving him to do even the darkest of things just to bring them to light.

Aside from his snooping, he is also an awfully caring person, with him always worried over the well-being of others when, sometimes, he doesn’t have to. He wants everyone to be equal in this gray world, no matter their past. To bring his self-proclaimed justice to those he cares for, he may even set aside his own morals to do what is, in the end, what he claims to be right.

The only time the lines truly blur completely between his fake personality and that of his real one is with a fabled item-- catducks; Rubber ducks with cat features. These...allegedly phenomenal objects are one of the few things he’d cast away all reason to get. Commit insane felonies for them? Well, it is not out of the question. Find a catduck and who knows what he’d try and do for it. They are almost more essential to him than water. The lengths he’d go for one is something to truly marvel.

History

“Reviving a cold case is that of poor judgement. But, if it’s what you’d still wish, I’ll help as best as I can.”

Myao has always had an interesting life, with both of his parents having been private investigators that have long since been inseparable since they met; Partners in crime, surely. When they had a child, they knew it’d be best if they were to raise him into the field as well, given that it was what connected the small, tightly-knit family together. His mother once said that they only had, and needed, each other anyway. From then on, Myao took that to be true, too; He had little to no friends when he grew up, as his parents were selective with who they knew. They had to live a secretive and secluded life to continue with their investigating, and Myao was aware of this. While he did yearn for companionship, he knew it’d be best if he kept himself indetectable and with this thinking, he knew with a heavy heart that the idea of having a friend would never hold true.

However...everything Myao had ever known was quickly shattered in just the span of one winter.

It was perhaps an early November when he was aware of his parents taking on a very risky case. He was nine at the time of  this, and wasn’t able to fully comprehend the severity of it all. This particular case was against a well-known organization with shady business practices that was starting to be spread through rumours in the underground market. Myao wasn’t very clear of the specifics, but he knew there was speculation of it having been centered in a hospital. Nevertheless, his parents were determined to uncover the truth. They had always been eager to take risks to reveal the darkest of secrets in order to help out their bureau, but, this time, they got involved in something that was far over their heads. Five days...then seven...then maybe even two weeks passed with them having not returned. It was common for them to take long missions, but they always had made sure to check in on him--he was all they had, after all. But, more so than that, they were all he had. Myao was worried. He feared the worst, but the voice of his father constantly told him to have faith. They had gotten out of worse situations before so it couldn’t be that bad! Yes, Myao knew, they were fine! They had to be. He had enough food to last for months in their humble home, so he knew it’d all work out. There was nothing to worry about, due to this Myao held his head up high, continuing to work on his small tasks whilst awaiting their return.

By week seven a knock came to the door. Myao hoped dearly it was them but was instead met by Chief of their agency--swathed in a dark gloom of black. Myao didn’t know the Chief very well, but was aware of him being an easy-going guy; He was the type to laugh at old jokes and wear his tie undone. ...But all that Myao saw now was the face of a defeated man. Myao knew then of what happened.

“I’m sorry, Myao...”

Myao was adopted shortly after by the bureau itself and lived in the wing. His parents had been respected members, and it wasn’t uncommon for them to talk about him, nor let him visit. So, when Myao, fueled by both his own misery and need for vengeance, asked to reopen the case that his parents were never able to finish, the other members had little hesitation before entrusting him to it. For the next five years, he spent every waking moment researching it. He slept little and watched numbers flitter about a computer screen for most of his days. While it may have seemed irrational to some, it was what kept his spirits alive--the possibility to finish his parents’ work and resolve this painful memory once and for all. Days soon started to stack, as months turned to years whilst he worked to complete it. With this, he started to get burnt out, doubt that was once lingering turning into a growing fear when suddenly--

He had a lead. A lead! Myao was never happier, and could have cried forever at what he found. When he showed the rest of the agency what he had found, they all began to work on the case unanimously, as even they had sadly doubted he’d ever find much information to get anywhere, but lacking the heart to stop him, and yet now knew there was hope as well. The next few months were whisked away by their collaborative effort, and soon it seemed like the case had never been unsolved at all. A culprit, a motive...it all came rolling into Myao’s hands effortlessly. There were no other words to describe the sudden, swift resolve that had come.

With his life goal having now been answered, he directed his attention to other matters, and found himself to soon become an official member of the group--the youngest private eye they had seen. It was something of slight controversy, and yet he was a valued member nonetheless.

So when there was a time that someone came to him about a suspicious app, or perhaps even the app presented itself to him-- he couldn't refuse. He knew there was likely a motive behind such a thing, and he couldn't help but try and seek out whatever it wanted. It had all been done indirectly through his phone, which did make it more questionable, and yet he was still curious to see what it was all about.

A misstep? Perhaps. But, it’s not bad to try and have fun on the job, is it?

Trivia-

- He was and is homeschooled.

- The agency he lives at is not connected to the government, similarily to most private detective bureau's. What they do, while sometimes under government watch, is often kept hidden. They work for hire and are almost like, in a sense, complicated and sophisticated vigilantes.

- To those that know him personally, he is often called 'Mayo' instead of 'Myao'.

- The symbol / letters on the hologram cat's coin is meow in Russian, despite him not knowing the language.

- His hoodie is based off of chimerism, most specifically that of a chimeric cat! He's never seen a chimeric cat before, or even really a cat at all for that matter, but he worships them like the myths they are.

- Myao does not curse whatsoever, nor does he get mad often. If the situation calls for it, he'll use alternatives such as the following:
"I'll hecking kill you, you hecker!" "What the fickle fluff!" "You silly kit-cat how does this stupid darn work?"

- He became attached to catducks due to his parent’s own fondness for them. His mother collected them and he never knew why; His father’s excuse for such a weird hobby was because they needed a little thing to just get away from it all sometimes.

What is a catduck, you ask?
